I’m only mildly joking. The NCAA is basically providing the NFL with an unofficial “minor league” where players are borderline slaves who can’t be paid despite how much money they bring in for the university. Meanwhile, college football coaches are often the highest paid state employees.

There’s a bunch of tech-sector pri vacy violations I’m offended by, but this one actually doesn’t seem too Orwellian to me. The deal is “ turn up to enough pool games and get free tickets to the playoffs” . They’re just requiring you to prove you’re holding up your end of that to get the credit , sin ce c learly a bunch of folks aren’t.

Don’t like it? De lete the app and pay for playoffs tickets like regular folks. Or di sa llow location servi c es for the app and just re l y on class atte ndance to build up your points.

It’s not going to actually WORK - it’ll take about 2 minu tes before “take my p ho ne with you” becomes a thing, and I bet there’s dozens of other workarounds - but that’s a whole ‘nother issue.

no, I’m not anti-sports. I’m an ardent Red Wings fan. I just rail against shit organizations like the NFL who abuse college sports as their own unpaid minor league. in hockey, ECHL players make a pittance but at least they get paid. College football players can’t even make one thin dime.  they don’t get paid for playing, they can’t enter into endorsement deals, they can’t do shit.
